We are finally in Oklahoma. After starting the application process in November 2010, we are here 2 years later and Keith is starting his training. It was a long wait filled with uncertainty about how this would all work out and if it would all work out. And 1 month before the age limit cutoff Keith got his Tentative Offer Letter saying he was hired. We were able to quickly rent out our townhouse in June, moved in July to Iowa to stay with my parents, Luther came in September and we moved again in December!
It's been a whirlwind but it will be so worth it in the end when Keith is able to spend more time with us as a family. We miss him quite a bit when he is working. There were times in November where he was home for less than 24 hours in a span of 9 days. We are so very thankful that Keith was willing to resign from his dream job in order to spend more time with his family. And someday we hope Keith will be able to fly again, either for fun or for a job after he retires. The mandatory retirement age for an air traffic controller is currently 56, so he'll have a few more years until the age 65 retirement age for pilots if he wants to fly again.
Keith is currently at his first day of class. I think it was set to be a boring day of HR info, health insurance, etc. Nothing too fancy. I keep watching the clock to see when he will be home! It's nice knowing he will be home around the same time every single day. And nothing like weather, or ground stops or maintenance issues will delay him in coming home! That makes for a happier husband and a happier wife.
We are mostly settled in at our temporary house here. It's a nice 3 bedroom 2 bathroom set up with lots of living space. The boys are sharing a room because it's just big enough for both of them and nice and close to our master bedroom. Makes for a short walk for me in the middle of the night when one or both boys need a little attention! I'm loving our simplified toy/book stash currently, makes clean up a breeze! 10 minutes and the whole house is picked up after a busy and messy day. It's lovely.
The person who operates the housing area we are living in has been really helpful. She put Keith in contact with some people who work in Albany and we were able to get some housing recommendations and other good information from him.
The weather has been BEAUTIFUL! I'm not big on cold weather or snow. And with a 2 month old it's nice having warm weather to go out in during the day. The weatherman was warning us on tv today that it will be VERY COLD this weekend. I think he say it may be 40 on Friday and 30 on Saturday. He acted like that was pretty extreme. But I think they changed it and it will be in the 60s now through the rest of the week. It's great going to the park without a winter coat!
I'll try to put up some pictures of our place soon!
